Step 1–Gather Requirements for your Enterprise
Hardware Models: Your enterprise might be already using some edge computing devices deployed on your 'Business assets.' if not, you will need to decide which Hardware model suits the requirement for your Edge Infrastructure. These Edge Computing devices are called 'Edge Nodes' in ZEDEDA User Agents.
Hardware Serial Numbers: Decide and establish how you want to determine and track the hardware serial number for your Edge devices.
Project Scope: You will also need to decide if you want to group your edge infrastructure using projects in ZEDEDA. Projects are a logical grouping of edge nodes. You will need to decide if you want your grouping based on geographic location, business unit, or any other operational logic.
Users and their Roles: Define who are the users who will be using ZEDEDA, and what will be their specific responsibilities. For example, the Hardware management teams are responsible for installing the physical devices. Software Application teams will make and deploy the apps, Operators, administrators, etc.
Networks and Connectivity: Decide how you want the edge nodes to connect with ZEDEDA CLOUD, and other public clouds or Databases for storing the app data.
Step 2–Select Edge Computing Hardware
Find an appropriate brand and model of an Edge Node that you want to use for your edge infrastructure. Click here to view a comprehensive list of models tested to work with the open-source EVE-OS and the ZEDEDA Cloud solution. You will need to procure hardware from a device manufacturer or distributor. Some OEMs and distributors sell hardware with EVE-OS pre-installed.
Import Models from the Marketplace: When you log in to the ZEDEDA platform and go to the Marketplace page, you will find many models we have tested with the ZEDEDA solution. The administrator can import the appropriate model from the Marketplace to the own enterprise. Learn more about Import Models.
Hardware Serial Number: You will need to determine and obtain the hardware serial numbers of the devices required during the onboarding process.
Step 3–EVE-OS Version
The next step is to find an appropriate EVE-OS version for your edge computing device model. Click here to find an appropriate image.
Onboard the EVE-OS installed Edge computing device on ZEDCloud. Once onboarded, we call it an Edge Node. See the steps to onboard a new Edge Node on ZEDEDA. Once onboarded, the onboarded device will appear in the list view of Edge Nodes in the ZEDEDA UI.
Step 6–Select Application(s) from Marketplace
Select the appropriate software applications for your Edge Node.
Select an Edge Application: You can click on the Marketplace icon to see the apps in the marketplace. The Apps section on the Marketplace page shows all the software applications that are available in the marketplace. See the Import Edge Applications article to follow the steps to import edge applications to your enterprise. Alternatively, add your own.
Add (Create) your own Edge Application: You can create a new application using an image of the software application installer. The Onboard an Edge Application will walk you through the steps to create a new edge application.
Step 8–Monitor the Status and Health of the Edge Node and/or Edge Application
You can click on the icon Edge node icon on the left navigation to see a list of individual Edge Nodes in a table view. You could click on an Edge Node to see the same things like 'Status,' 'Basic information,' and 'Events' in a detailed view. See Lifecycle Operations on Edge Nodes to learn more.
Similarly, you could see an edge application instance details by clicking on an edge application instance in the edge application instance list view. See Lifecycle Operations on Edge Applications to learn more about the edge application instances. This is where you could monitor the health parameters of assets in your edge infrastructure.
Step 9–Congratulations, your Edge Application is online!
Your first edge node is running the desired edge application in your edge infrastructure.
