Azure Integration Overview

1. Introduction

Why integrate ZEDEDA with Azure?

  • Dropship nodes at scale automatically connect to Azure IoT Hub with Device Provisioning Service (DPS) integration.
  • Deploy the entire Azure IoT Edge software stack, including the operating system (OS), Azure IoT Edge runtime, IoT Edge modules, and alongside other cloud-native apps - with a single click of a button on thousands of nodes instantly.
  • Gather real-time resource utilization, performance metrics, and status of your edge nodes, Azure IoT Edge runtime, and Azure IoT Edge modules.
  • Access runtime and container logs for troubleshooting purposes.
  • Consolidate edge workloads on the same node while sending data to Azure IoT Hub.

Implementing an Azure IoT project is more than just deploying the Azure IoT Edge runtime and ingesting data into Azure. It’s a time-consuming process when deploying thousands of nodes at a scale that requires manual installation of software and configuration of each node, often resulting in IoT projects stalling.

If you are already an Azure customer and already use (or plan to use) Azure IoT Edge for managing your applications, we make it operationally very effective for you. You can seamlessly onboard devices with ZEDEDA’s mobile application and deploy the Azure IoT Edge runtime with the modules through the ZEDEDA portal.

ZEDEDA supports the following scenarios:
  • Complete module management can be done from ZedControl.
  • Suppose you already have a module deployed in IoT Hub directly. In that case, we can provide a single pane of glass for monitoring the health of the modules, collecting logs and events from the Edge devices, and showing an integrated view in the ZedControl.

In both of the above scenarios, ZEDEDA orchestrates the entire IoT Stack, including the deployment and management of the hardware and applications. More specifically, this consists of the entire Azure IoT Edge software stack, including the operating system (OS), Azure IoT Edge runtime, IoT Edge modules, and other cloud-native apps.

Note: As a customer, you would still need to go to the Azure portal to set up the IoT Hub and Device Provisioning Service (DPS).
